Today, I want to show you How to get SEO clients that pay you anywhere from $500 - $2,000 per month for SEO services.

I will cover step by step how to go from a complete beginner with no clients whatsoever to scaling past your first 10-20 clients if you already have some experience.

If you're new here and have no idea who I am, here's a quick brief.

I've been doing SEO videos on YouTube for the last five years and documenting a lot of my wins/losses while growing an SEO business that mainly focuses on servicing local SEO clients.

At the highest point in my agency career, I was raking in around $50k per month helping clients with their local SEO.

1. Build a Website That Ranks

The first step I recommend to anyone that wants to begin getting seo clients is to build yourself a website that ranks on Google in the same niche as your clients.

Here's why

When you start out, it takes a lot of confidence to sell SEO services, ESPECIALLY if you haven't done client SEO before.

First of all, having a website obviously makes you look more legit than someone without a website.

More importantly, if you can rank your website you can use those rankings as a way to prove that you're able to accomplish what your client is looking to do with their local business.

When it comes to ranking locally, you can rank VERY quickly by targeting low-difficulty keywords called, "golden keywords."

Essentially, a golden keyword is something that not many people are optimizing their pages for.

2. Niche Down Your Local SEO Business

As I just shared with you, having a website that ranks in the same niche as your client is going to help a lot.

When you choose to work with one main type of business you begin to learn the ins and outs of that business.

This helps you a TON when you want to scale because you're going to know exactly what you're going to need to do to rank and bring leads to businesses similar to the ones you already work with.

On top of that, you get a track record of success that you can show to businesses that are in that niche which is just more proof that they should work with you.

3. Understand How to Quickly Identify Issues With Any Website

Back when I worked day and night in a tiny garage I would spend most of my time performing SEO audits on a website.

I knew that if I could quickly find issues on a website then business owners would have a reason to pay me for my help.

I spent a ton of time writing down problems I'd find on a website with my computer's notepad manually. 

Eventually, I was able to find tools that would automate this process for you but a lot of these tools lacked the ability to cohesively crawl a site and highlight what was wrong with the different pages in bulk.

4. Find Websites That Are Already Close to Ranking

One of the quickest ways to guarantee that you rank someone higher on Google is to find websites that are already in positions 2-9 and then offer them some help.

The ranking is A LOT easier to do when you're working with a site that's already somewhat ranking well because Google already trusts that site to a certain degree.

Something I struggled with like crazy when I started trying to scale my local SEO services was automation.

I tried doing all of the work myself, outsourcing to virtual assistants, and white labeling other SEO agencies' services.

No matter what, I either had unhappy clients or terrible results.

Until I realized a MAJOR mistake that I was doing.

For a long time, I had been offering custom services, meaning that I'd get a client, promise them a bunch of results, then work day and night trying to get them those results.

Now, this is fine when you're starting out with just a few clients but when you start taking on 10-20 clients at a time, you're going to run yourself into a hole very quickly.

I recommend instead setting up a shop on your website where you can productize your SEO services.

That means, instead of selling custom solutions, you start selling services that are done when the deliverable is complete.

6. Start Creating Your Own Content

One thing that I found odd about the SEO industry is that everyone wants to sell SEO but nobody seems to want to do it for themselves.

The truth is that creating content doesn't have to be a huge struggle.

There are a TON of ways to begin building content that gets you traffic and ultimately SEO clients.

You can do short-form video content, long-form screen record video tutorials, blogging, podcasting/interviews, Facebook group posts, questions, etc.

But don't take it from me, find someone that you know is doing well in the industry and figure out if what they're doing is something that you think you could do as well.

You can even outsource all of your content as well.

You may not have the budget right now but once you start getting a few clients, use some of that money to invest in your own SEO and marketing.

The biggest issue with most forms of traffic is that you don't control the asset that's generating said traffic.

Sure, you control your own website, but what if Google penalizes you?

Maybe you have a YouTube channel but what if YouTube shuts down your account?

I've had many instances where I've had accounts with thousands of followers banned but it never phased me because I knew that I controlled my traffic.

How?

There are a few ways that you can start controlling your own traffic.

  1. You can begin collecting emails from people who visit your website.

  2. Diversify your assets so that if one gets banned you still have other assets to fall back on.

8. Build Scarcity

Scarcity is one of the most overlooked tactics when it comes to marketing.

Here's the thing.

If you always offer the same thing day in and day out, it becomes a lot less valuable.

Why?

Because things that are abundant are valued less.

If there's only ONE of something in the world then technically it becomes extremely valuable as long as it holds meaning or purpose to the person who's viewing it.

If you look at the SEO services that I now offer you'll see there is a limit.

One because it makes my services look more valuable but two because we actually only can handle a certain amount of clients per month that we work with.

If you approach it strategically, some freelance platforms can be an excellent way to get SEO clients.

You can start by looking at platforms such as Upwork, freelancer, and PeoplePerHour.

If you follow the above-given process properly, then you will definitely get so many, SEO clients. So after getting SEO clients you have to focus on your results If you make your clients happy, then definitely they will tell their relative businessmen about your SEO services.

With this, your SEO service will also be marketed for free, and you will get more SEO clients for free.
